Job Description – Goldsmith Apprentice (Full-Time) Competitive Salary

Creative, passionate, dedicated and interested in learning an exquisite craft? Raise your hand if that’s you.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about learning a skill and is keen to be involved in all areas of workshop life. There is no previous experience required, only an ambition to learn and to develop. As a goldsmith apprentice, you will help with the day-to-day running of the Jewellery Workshop. Our craft requires time and dedication, it could take between 2-5 years to progress to a Junior Goldsmith, depending on the individuals own ability to learn, so candidates should be sure that this is the trade in which they would like to grow.

The apprenticeship training will include daily one-to-one time with a senior goldsmith, weekly and monthly creation tasks and quarterly reviews of development and skill. Basic duties will include making of buff sticks, administrative tasks, and maintenance of the workshop tools and machinery.

Tools will be provided.

The apprenticeship will begin with basic tool maintenance and how to create important personal tools such as buff sticks, and will develop further to cover filling, desprewing and cleaning up castings. Over the course of the first few months we would anticipate the apprentice to have learned how to drill, how to use the polishing mops, and have a basic understanding of soldering.

Skills that will be taught in the first 12 months:

  • Soldering
  • Laser-welding
  • Resizing rings
  • Mounting jewellery
  • Wax carving
  • Polishing
  • Creating tools for the trade

This apprenticeship is aimed at 16-17year olds and will be a fulltime position in our Cheltenham workshop
