A Story Only You Could Tell

Commissioning a bespoke piece at Beards isn’t really a transaction. It’s something far more personal. A process that unfolds over time, shaped by your story and brought to life in precious metal and carefully chosen stones.

It often starts simply, with a conversation and a few pencil lines on paper. From there, the idea begins to take shape. Every stage is handled in our Cheltenham workshop, where generations of skill and experience guide each decision. By the time the piece is finished and polished, what you’re holding is more than jewellery. It’s something considered, something lasting, and entirely your own.

Nothing Off-the-Shelf About It

Whether it’s a bespoke engagement ring or a complete suite of jewellery to mark a moment that matters, the process always starts in the same place. A blank sheet of paper and a conversation.

We take the time to listen. Properly. Because the best jewellery doesn’t need to shout to be noticed. It feels right. It reflects something honest, something personal. Not trends, but your style, your story, your sentiment.

From there, ideas begin to take shape. What starts as a thought becomes sketches, then form, then something you can see and hold. Pencil, paper, a wash of paint. And slowly, something imagined becomes something real.

Expert Hands, Every Step of the Way

We bring together traditional craftsmanship and modern techniques to shape each design with care and accuracy. Using advanced 3D CAD software, we build detailed digital models so you can see the piece clearly before it’s made, from every angle.

It’s a way of making sure everything feels right early on. Proportions, balance, small details that matter more than you might expect. By the time it reaches the bench, the design is already resolved. What follows is the making, done by hand, with the same level of attention.

Stones & Sentiment

At this stage, our workshop team can create a test ring, 3D printed to your exact size and design. It’s a simple but important step. You can see how it sits, how it feels, and make sure everything is just right before we move forward.

Once the design is settled and refined, we begin sourcing the stones. This is often where things become a little more special. Our in-house specialists will guide you through a selection of carefully chosen gems, each with its own character and subtle differences.

If you have heirloom diamonds or family stones, we can work those into the design too. It’s a thoughtful way to carry something forward, while creating a piece that feels entirely new.

Tradition, Reimagined

Everything is done in-house, from the first design through to smithing, setting and final polish. That makes a real difference. It gives us complete control over the process and ensures every detail is handled with care.

There’s also something more to it. When everything happens under one roof, the piece feels more connected. More considered. You’re not simply buying jewellery. You’re creating something that’s been shaped by a shared idea, with the intention of being worn, loved, and passed on.

Made to Be Remembered

Using the creative vision of our team, we shape each design around you. Your story, your style, your sense of what feels right. The result is a piece that doesn’t just sit neatly on the skin, but carries meaning with it. Something that feels personal from the moment you put it on.

No two bespoke pieces are ever the same, and that’s exactly how it should be. Your life, your milestones, your relationships all deserve more than something off the shelf. They deserve time, care, and craftsmanship. And perhaps, just a touch of something that feels a little special.

  • Step one: Consultation

Your bespoke journey begins with a relaxed, no-obligation conversation, either with our in-house designer or a member of the team. It’s a chance to talk things through, share ideas, ask questions, and see what feels right. There’s no pressure at this stage. Just a starting point, and the space to explore what’s possible.

  • Step TWO: Design

Our team begins by translating your ideas into hand-drawn sketches or painted illustrations. It’s the first time the design takes shape, giving form to what’s been discussed.
Every line is considered, every detail thought through. It’s a quiet but important stage, where the piece starts to feel real and the direction becomes clear.

  • Step three: Design proceed

Once you’re happy with the design, it moves to our technical team, where it’s developed into a detailed 3D CAD model. This stage requires a £150 deposit and gives you a clear, accurate view of how the finished piece will look. It’s a chance to refine the finer details and feel confident before we begin making.

  • Step Four: Production Proceed

Once the design is approved, we begin crafting your piece in our in-house workshop. At this stage, a 50% deposit of the remaining balance is taken to start production. From here, the focus shifts to making. Each part is carefully brought together, with the same attention to detail that’s been there from the very beginning.

  • Step Five: The Finishing Touches

Your piece is then brought to life by our master jewellers. Stones are set by hand, the metal is carefully refined, and each surface is polished until it feels just right. This is where everything comes together. The design, the materials, the workmanship. What began as an idea becomes something you can hold, wear, and keep.

  • Step Six: The FINAL REVEAL

Your finished piece is carefully prepared and presented, ready for collection. A one-of-a-kind creation, made just for you, and something to be worn and treasured for years to come. We also offer a range of presentation and proposal options, with beautifully considered packaging to suit the moment.

Frequently Asked Questions

This must be very expensive right?

You might be pleasantly surprised. As a family-run business with our own in-house workshops, we’re able to offer a level of value that often exceeds expectations, without ever compromising on quality.

In many cases, going bespoke costs no more than choosing something ready-made. And because everything is tailored around you, we can adjust the design to suit your brief and your budget, while still keeping the integrity of the piece exactly where it should be.

What if I get bored of my bespoke design?

One of the great strengths of precious metals like gold and platinum is how well they lend themselves to reuse. Stones can be reset, metals melted down and shaped again, all without losing their integrity.

At Beards, we offer a dedicated remodelling service that allows older or inherited pieces to take on a new life. It’s a careful process, led by design and handled with respect, so what you end up with still carries its history, just in a form that feels right for now.

Do you offer refunds for bespoke jewellery?

No, due to the custom nature of bespoke jewellery, we do not offer refunds on bespoke purchases.

What if my bespoke ring is the wrong size?

We offer a first resizing for free so you can rest assured that a custom ring will fit correctly.

How long does the bespoke process take?

We aim to create your piece in 6-10 weeks from the date you proceed with your order.
