Sizing FAQ

Help Guessing A Size

When subtlety is key (or you’re simply unsure), there are a handful of tried-and-true methods to uncover the perfect fit:

– Borrow a ring your partner already wears on that finger and take it to a trusted local jeweller to confirm the size.

– Wrap a soft string or strip of paper around the base of the finger and measure the circumference — simple, if not entirely scientific.

– Or, for the romantics: enlist a friend to lure them into a jewellery store under the guise of their own shopping plans. It’s a classic move — and it works.

For context, the most commonly ordered sizes for engagement rings tend to fall around J, L and O — but everyone’s hands tell their own story.

Measuring Your Size

Measuring a ring you already own? Lay a ruler or tape measure flat on the table and place the ring directly on top. The internal diameter — that clean inner circle — is what you’re after. Note the millimetres across; that’s the measurement that touches the finger.

If you’re measuring the finger itself, take a piece of string and wrap it comfortably around the base — not too snug, not too slack. Mark the point where the ends meet, then lay it against a ruler to find the millimetres. It’s simple, but surprisingly effective.

Surprising Someone?

We understand—sizing a ring for someone else can feel a touch daunting. With variations from one country to another and subtle differences between fingers (yes, even on the same hand), it’s no wonder many approach it with caution. But with a little guidance, it needn’t be guesswork.

Here’s a general sense of proportion to ease the process:

  • Extra Small | F – G
  • Small | H – J
  • Small/Medium | K – L
  • Medium | M – O
  • Medium/Large | P – Q
  • Large | R – T
  • Extra Large | U+

For reference, our average client ring size is M — a safe and elegant starting point if you’re entirely unsure. And when it comes to engagement rings, our most requested sizes tend to fall at L, M and N.

Buying For Yourself?

Precision matters—especially when it comes to jewellery worn every day. For those wishing to ensure the perfect fit, we offer a few thoughtful methods.

Measuring at Home

Option One: Measuring an Existing Ring

Place the ring flat across a ruler, measuring the internal diameter from edge to edge at the widest point. Be precise—start from 0mm, and ensure you’re measuring only the space inside the band. Then consult our Ring Size Chart to match the measurement to its corresponding letter.

Option Two: Measuring the Finger Itself

Take a fine ribbon, string, or slim strip of paper and wrap it gently around the base of the intended finger. It should sit comfortably—not loose, not tight. Mark the point where it overlaps, then lay it flat against a ruler to measure in millimetres. A little patience here pays off in lasting comfort.

Should you need assistance at any step, our team is always on hand to help refine the process.

Resizing Before Purchase

If the proposal is to remain a surprise—as so many of the best ones are—then an educated guess is more than acceptable. Our most commonly ordered ring size is M, making it a sensible place to begin if you’re uncertain.

Rest assured, we offer a complimentary resizing service on all Beards rings. Should you purchase online, we can always resize before we dispatch your order.

Resizing After Purchase

Should your engagement ring arrive a touch too snug—or slightly loose—our first resize is always complimentary.

If you’re uncertain of the new size needed, we recommend visiting us for guidance. Precision, after all, ensures the kind of comfort that lasts a lifetime.

Tips For The Perfect Fit

A well-sized ring should ease over the knuckle with a gentle resistance and settle securely—neither spinning nor squeezing—at the base of the finger. It’s a delicate balance of comfort and hold.

Worth noting: our fingers aren’t constant. They swell and shift with the ebb and flow of daily life—warmer temperatures, long-haul flights, pregnancy, even just the time of day can all play a part. Hands, much like feet, are often a little fuller by evening than they are in the morning.

When measuring, consider the width of your chosen band—wider designs tend to fit more snugly than finer ones. We always suggest taking your measurement later in the day, when your hands are at their most natural.

For clarity, our sizing chart above offers a guide to how Beards’ ring sizes correspond across global measurements.
