HOROLOGY EVENT

When we arrange an event, there is always the thought about how many people will be able to attend? how will it go? will people enjoy it? So many things to consider…. but at the end of our Horology Spectacular on 4th November we knew we’d held a great event.

From the wonderful talks of Dr Mike Flannery, One of Britain’s preeminent clockmakers on the history of clocks and their place in the history of timekeeping, we moved to Fran Roberts, curator of the clock collection at Snowshill Manor.

Then, continuing evening, clients attended a watch clinic in our newly opened workshop from James Robinson, Head of the British Watchmaking School and Serena Gough, Beards very own Master Watchmaker.

Allowing people to see the intricacies of the automatic movement to the sessions on magnetism, pressure testing, how escapements work and the battery consumption tests we run.

Alongside this, was a stunning visual display showcasing the evolution of timekeeping through the centuries including beautiful examples of the art of the watchmaker, from perpetual calendars to tourbillion set movements and into the 21st century and the latest Smartwatches.

With refreshments supplied by The Cheeseworks, introducing people to the intricacies of the escapement movement or explaining the dangers of magnetism, to showing the beauty of a mechanical timepiece allowed us to explain the wonders of watchmaking and what a time we all had.
