Time & History

OMEGA’s story began in 1848, when Louis Brandt established a small workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, assembling pocket watches with locally sourced components. Under the guidance of his sons, the business evolved into full-scale manufacture, introducing the groundbreaking “Omega” calibre in 1894—a movement so advanced, the company adopted its name. By the early 20th century, OMEGA had become a global benchmark for precision, trusted to time the Olympic Games from 1932 and later chosen by NASA for the Apollo 11 mission, cementing its place in both horological and human history.

Beards’ own connection with OMEGA dates back to the 1920s, when Thomas Wilfred Waite began crafting pocket watches using OMEGA movements. It was the beginning of a longstanding partnership built on shared values—precision, reliability, and timeless design. From the Olympic stadium to the surface of the Moon, and famously the wrist of James Bond, OMEGA has continued to define moments that matter.

Today, we’re proud to offer a curated selection of OMEGA timepieces at our Cheltenham boutique—each one a reflection of Swiss excellence and enduring craftsmanship. We invite you to experience the collection in person, and discover the legacy behind the name.

Technology & Advancements

OMEGA has long stood at the forefront of horological innovation, redefining mechanical watchmaking with the introduction of the Co‑Axial escapement in 1999. Developed by master watchmaker George Daniels, this revolutionary mechanism significantly reduces friction within the movement, offering greater mechanical efficiency, long-term accuracy, and longer service intervals. This leap in escapement design, the first practical advancement in over two centuries, cemented OMEGA’s role as a pioneer in precision timekeeping.

Building on this foundation, OMEGA introduced its industry-leading Master Chronometer certification in partnership with METAS, ensuring each watch meets the highest standards of accuracy, performance, and magnetic resistance. By incorporating non-ferrous materials like silicon, OMEGA created movements that resist magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss—far exceeding conventional expectations. Every Master Chronometer watch endures eight rigorous tests, reflecting the brand’s dedication to reliability and innovation in real-world conditions.

OMEGA’s reputation for technical leadership also extends to material science and movement craftsmanship. From proprietary alloys like Sedna™ and Moonshine™ Gold to scratchproof ceramic and advanced O‑MegaSteel, the brand blends cutting-edge materials with meticulous Swiss manufacturing. In both mechanical and quartz realms, OMEGA has made history—introducing the first Swiss mass-produced quartz watch in 1969 and equipping NASA’s Apollo missions with the legendary Speedmaster, the first watch worn on the Moon. This spirit of innovation continues to define OMEGA as one of the most forward-thinking names in watchmaking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most popular OMEGA watch collection?

The OMEGA Speedmaster remains the brand’s most iconic and sought-after collection—revered for its rich history, enduring design, and unmatched precision. Famously known as the “Moonwatch,” it earned its place in horological history as the first watch worn on the lunar surface during the Apollo 11 mission. Loved by collectors and everyday wearers alike, the Speedmaster combines legacy with versatility, making it a perennial favourite across generations.

Can I wear my OMEGA watch daily?

Absolutely—OMEGA timepieces are crafted with daily wear in mind. Built to precise Swiss standards and rigorously tested for durability, they’re designed to accompany you through the rhythm of everyday life, not just special occasions. Whether you’re desk-bound or globe-trotting, your OMEGA is more than capable—just be sure to service it at recommended intervals to keep it performing at its finest.

Is an OMEGA watch reliable?

Exceptionally so. OMEGA has built its reputation on precision and reliability for over 175 years—trusted by astronauts, athletes, and watch connoisseurs alike. Each timepiece undergoes rigorous testing, with many models certified as Master Chronometers, offering outstanding resistance to magnetism, shock, and the demands of daily life. In short, it’s a watch you can depend on—for now, and for decades to come.
