General Service

There are three key reasons to have your watch serviced: lubrication, regulation, and water resistance.

Lubrication & Wear Prevention: A watch relies on various specialized oils and lubricants to minimize friction between its intricate moving parts. As these lubricants dry out over time, friction increases, leading to greater wear and diminished timekeeping accuracy. Regular servicing ensures proper lubrication, preserving the movement’s longevity.

Precision & Regulation: Timekeeping precision naturally shifts over time due to wear and subtle changes in the escapement mechanism, including the hairspring. During servicing, the watch is carefully regulated and tested to restore optimal accuracy.

Water Resistance Maintenance: The seals that protect your watch from moisture and dust degrade over time. As part of routine servicing, these seals are inspected and replaced if necessary to maintain the watch’s water resistance and durability.

Accredited Servicing

At Beards, our brand-accredited service centre is set up to care for your watch to the same standard you’d expect from the manufacturer itself. Our authorised watchmakers bring years of experience to every piece, working with the same level of precision and care you’d hope for when handing over something valuable.

We’re proud to offer accredited servicing and repairs for OMEGA, Cartier, Longines, and many more brands. Each watch is handled properly from the outset, starting with electronic testing to check timekeeping accuracy. Cases and bracelets are then refinished using the same techniques and compounds used by the brands themselves, so the finish feels right, not overworked.

When it comes to repairs, we use brand-approved tools to open and work on each watch carefully. Every component is handled with precision, and if anything needs replacing, only authorised parts are used. Nothing is rushed, and nothing is guessed.

Water resistance is checked through a full three-stage process. The case is submerged, then tested under pressure, followed by a condensation check to make sure no moisture has entered. It’s thorough, but it needs to be.

In the end, the aim is simple. Your watch comes back performing as it should, and looking as it did when it left the brand.

Water Damage

Water and watch movements don’t mix. Even a small amount of moisture inside a case can cause real damage over time. One of the first signs is often a light mist under the glass. It might seem minor, but it’s usually a warning that something isn’t quite right.

If left, moisture can begin to affect the internal components, both the parts you can see and those you can’t. Corrosion can set in, and tiny particles may work their way into the movement. In some cases, that’s enough to stop the watch altogether.

A full service will remove any moisture and address any wear caused along the way. Components are cleaned, checked, and replaced where needed, then re-lubricated so everything runs as it should. The aim is always to bring the watch back to proper working order, not just to get it ticking again.

The process itself is thorough. The watch is fully disassembled, each part cleaned, then carefully rebuilt and tested. Only once it passes all checks is it ready to be returned.

That said, timing matters. The longer moisture sits inside the movement, the greater the risk of lasting damage. If key parts like the dial or base plate are affected, repairs can become more involved. Regular servicing helps avoid that, keeping your watch in good condition and ready to wear with confidence.

Battery Services

Quartz watches still benefit from regular servicing, even if the intervals are usually longer than with manual or automatic pieces. While they’re powered electronically, much of the movement is still mechanical, so the same care and attention applies.

A common sign that a quartz watch needs servicing is a shorter battery life. If you find yourself replacing the battery more often than expected, it can point to dried lubricants or general wear within the movement.

If the battery is lasting less than a year, it’s usually a clear indication that a full service is due.
